WEEK 4: Final Submission

Short section of my structure detailing the stairs, glass ceiling and rock walls and ceiling. Long section of my structure detailing the lift, stairs, skylights and balustrades on the upper level. My two describing words was "ticking" for Rolex and "kinetic" for Hazan Motorworks.

 The strong rectilinear, geometric and cantilevered structure, grey concrete exterior and full length windows creates an abstract form in the natural environment of my building.

Section view of my structure drawing attention to the 'glass drops' from the ceiling that allows light in and gives a sense of depth to interior of the model. It also creates 'links' the basement level to the showroom and upper level. There is a lack of separating walls and rooms on all floors to allow an 'open concept'. This creates great flexibility and freedom of space to the clients and the usage of the workshops.

The 'glass drops' also double as the staircase balustrades forming a barrier between the user and the edge of the stairs. This creates a unique experience where the building is directly integrated into the function of the staircase, yet allowing the design of the staircase to stand out independently from the structure.

WEEK 3: Video

This video shows rock climbers climbing cliff faces in India. I chose this video because it has similar elements with material choices for my model (stone walls, wooden stairs) as they are representative of the outdoor environment which is what I am attempting to integrate into my design.

Rock climbing is a sport that is, hardy, tough and outdoorsy, words that I find best describe the kind of products and the way they are often advertised.
